How haunted is Richmond Hill? Resident Todd Dean wants to know and he’s taking matters into his own hands.

Using word of mouth and the internet, such as the Bryan County News blog site, Dean has been fishing around for paranormal activity in the area. If you live in Bryan County and have had sightings that you just can’t explain, Dean said he’s willing to investigate at no cost to the property owner.

“I would really like to know what kind of paranormal activity is going on in my hometown,” Dean said.

By trade, Dean holds an administrative job at a chemical factory in Port Wentworth. In his off time, however, Dean can often be found pursuing his love for ghost hunting.

Dean has explored many areas of Savannah and has even started his own non-profit company entitled Spirit Chasers of Savannah, but Dean said he’d really like to have a Bryan County sighting and is considering changing the name to Spirit Chasers of Richmond Hill. Read the rest of this entry »

Ghost bars Seeing spirits—and we don’t mean EFFEN Vodka

Ghost Bars

Our city has had its share of frightening problems. Consider the riots of 1992, the earthquake of 1994 and the ever-present danger of drunk-driving starlets in 2006. Now Los Angeles is facing another terrifying crisis, and this time it’s affecting our nightlife. This town has a serious ghost problem—and it’s spookier than ever thanks to the newly opened Crocker Club and the apparitions who supposedly reside here.

Located in the former Crocker Citizens National Bank in Downtown L.A., this 6,000-square-foot venue includes safe-deposit boxes and a genuine functioning vault door, which serves as the entrance to the club’s Mosler Lounge. Though the cocktail waitresses use modern innovations such as handheld PDA units, owner Vincent Terzian kept the building’s historic beauty intact. The most notable carry-over from yesteryear, however, might be invisible.

Near the private studio rooms is a secluded second bar called the Ghost Bar. While this might be a good place to start a ghost hunt, acclaimed psychic medium and paranormal investigator Virginia Marco tells us that at least one of the Crocker Club’s ghosts roams the entire building. Upon visiting the venue, Marco made contact with a spirit named Travis, a bald, English-speaking man in his 40s or 50s who was working in the building at the time of his death. According to Marco, Travis has green eyes, no wife and no kids. Marco went on to explain how Travis “missed his opportunity to cross over” to the afterlife and now resides between this world and the next. And though Travis apparently gets excited when patrons see him, he’s none too pleased with all the new people coming into his building. “He’s pissed,” Marco explained.

New TV pilot looks at haunted Savannah

February 25th, 2009 by CVPI

Listen: new-tv-pilot-looks-at-haunted-savannah

local_film_23_phantomsLET’S face it. Many of the people who bring money to Savannah have been dead for years — sometimes centuries.

The designation of Savannah as America’s Most Haunted city a few years ago by a national parapsychologist was just the latest nod to the city’s ghostly history. There are many books about haunted Savannah and many more planned. Ghostly tours run along city streets at night, and customers can even travel by hearse to get their thrills and chills.

Savannahians love their ghosts, and have no desire to exorcise them. But the focus on the supernatural in Savannah may be undergoing a huge change.

On Feb. 28, a new television pilot will be premiered at The Distillery. Phantoms of History: Savannah was produced by Crissy Earheart, James Caskey and Murray Silver, who worked together on a PBS documentary, Southern Haunts.

Earheart, the executive producer, is from Nashville and has been affiliated with the Grand Ole Opry for 30 years. Silver, a fifth-generation Savannahian, is the author of Great Balls of Fire: The Uncensored Story of Jerry Lee Lewis.

Caskey is the owner and operator of Cobblestone Tours, a local company that offers both haunted walking and haunted pub tours.

“Phantoms of History is the pilot for a new television series developed for the A&E Channel,” Silver says. “Its first episode is devoted to Savannah, in an effort to give tourists a fresh reason to visit this historic city.”

While there’s no doubt Savannah’s ghosts are lucrative, the producers believe tourist interest is shifting towards an appreciation of Savannah’s history. “That a place may be haunted only seems to underscore its historic importance, and is no longer its most important aspect,” Silver says.

At the premiere, the episode will be screened and the producers will talk about the project in general and Savannah in particular. DVDs will be available at the premiere and at the Visitor’s Center, the Trolley Stop shops, the Book Gift Shop and True Grits.

“Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil has run its course and we haven’t had a major motion picture filmed here in the past eight years,” Silver says.

“The reason given by tourists most often for coming to Savannah these days is to eat lunch with Paula Deen,” Silver says. “We hope that Phantoms of History provides a fresh reason to visit Savannah, and reminds viewers of the reasons why they were interested in the town in the first place — her history and her natural beauty.”

Ghost hunters plan spirited investigation

slippery-rock-picEmma, go home.

That’s the message paranormal investigators hope to deliver next weekend to a ghost that many Slippery Rock University students and teachers say has been roaming the halls of the university’s theater and the North Hall residential building.

They call her Emma, for Emma Guffey Miller, a prominent theater supporter and former Slippery Rock trustee, who died 39 years ago today.

“When I first got here, it was generally accepted that the place was haunted,” said David Skeele, a professor of theater. A psychic who went through the theater building detected three presences, he said.

Over the years, Slippery Rock students have reported seeing a woman’s figure in the theater or hearing pounding noises. The apparition is thought to be Miller because she loved the theater, and the building is named for her.

Little-heralded ‘Medium’ gives NBC a boost in the ratings

February 23rd, 2009 by CVPI

Source: http://www.latimes.com/

mainPatricia Arquette has gotten accustomed to the comments from fans who don’t seem to know that she’s still on television.

“I definitely have people every day grab me on the street saying, ‘When is your show coming back, why did they cancel it?’ ” said Arquette, who stars in “Medium,” NBC’s drama about a psychic who helps solve crimes while juggling the quotidian challenges of middle-class family life.

In fact, “Medium” returned to the air this month for its fifth season, which finds Arquette’s character, Allison DuBois, back assisting the Phoenix district attorney’s office, the fallout from her public exposure now largely subsided. The return of the series wasn’t accompanied by the fanfare of other mid-season premieres like “American Idol” or “Lost.” But the under-the-radar drama continues to draw a loyal fan base that gravitates to the program’s cleverly packed mysteries and unsentimental depiction of a marriage.

In its first three episodes this year, “Medium” averaged 8.5 million viewers, making it NBC’s sixth-most-watched scripted series of the season. The show has attracted 45% more viewers than NBC’s earlier 10 p.m. Monday programming, which included “My Own Worst Enemy” and “Momma’s Boys.”

It’s a solid performance for a drama that does not get a huge marketing boost or generate much chatter in the zeitgeist.

Books, cameras … and ghosts?

February 23rd, 2009 by CVPI

Source: http://www.wnewsj.com/

173820After hours, the usually quiet Books ‘N’ More was a hubbub of activity during a recent Saturday night. Six OOPS (Ohio Organization of Paranormal Studies) were busy setting up digital voice recorders, infrared camcorders, magnetic meters and heat recorders for the evening’s investigation of “things that go bump in the night.”

This was one of several investigations of the paranormal scheduled for Wilmington this year. The owners, Dan and Marla Stewart, were contacted by OOPS with a request to investigate the 98-year-old building.

Among the investigators were Steven Powell, Tom Babb, Vickie Morgan, all of Wilmington; Jennifer Swackhamer of Hillsboro; and Andrea Tidd of Jamestown.

Hoping for some evidence of the paranormal, OOPS conducted a 13-hour investigation. Several incidents were recorded and all of the results of the investigation will be posted on the group’s Web site, www.ohorgparanormalstudies.com, in couple of weeks.

Powell is OOPS founder.

“Do I believe in ghosts? Most definitions of ‘ghost’ refer to a spirit or soul of man, something in which I most definitely believe,” he said. “Secondary definitions mention a disembodied soul or spirit of the deceased manifesting itself in a human-like form, something I would like to see, photograph, or videotape.

“To date, as a member of OOPS, I have videotaped an unknown light source that has motion, recorded disembodied voices that speak clearly in complete sentences, and have videotaped an inanimate object moving on its own,” he said. “Without concrete proof, none of these experiences qualify as being a ‘ghost’ so I cannot say that I have seen one, but neither can I say that there is no such thing as a ‘ghost’ without the same concrete evidence. So I guess I am open to the distinct possibility of the existence of ‘ghosts.’”

The former “Lizzie McGuire” starlet dropped by her local Whole Foods, looking ever-so-stylish as she pushed out her cartful of goodies while chatting on the phone.

Meanwhile, Miss Duff recently sat down to talk about her upcoming guest role on “Ghost Whisperer”, telling press, “Jennifer Love Hewitt’s one of my friends, and we were having dinner one night. She’s like, ‘Come be on my show. You know, we’re almost finished.’ I’m like, ‘Give me a part. I’ll do it.’ And it just kind of came about really naturally and organically like that.”

Talking about her character, she adds, “I’m kind of being haunted by someone that I was in a relationship with before they passed away. He had unfinished business with me, and I’m having nightmares of being turned upside down in my apartment, like when I’m sleeping on the bed, I’m actually going to be hanging from the ceiling.”

Be sure to tune in to CBS, with Hilary’s episode of “Ghost Whisperer” airing on Friday, April 9 at 9 p.m.

Local Ghost Hunter Talk to Kids

February 23rd, 2009 by CVPI

Source: http://www.wcsh6.com/

genthumbKids got spooked at the Bangor Library Friday. The Bangor Ghost Hunters talked to a group of children and parents Friday. They explained how they investigate different places for paranormal activity. Kids got to see all the cool ghost hunter gadgets, like electromagnetic field meters and night vision cameras.

Bangor Ghost Hunters Founder and Director Harold Murray also used magic tricks to show the kids that some paranormal activities have a logical explanation.

“I put magic into it so I leave something unexplained for them, but yet I give them another one I explained,” Murray said. “So you have an explanation for one thing and not for another.”

The Bangor Ghost Hunters will be back at the Bangor Library Saturday for a presentation geared toward adults. The group will talk about experiences they’ve had on ghost hunts and bring some of the items they’ve taken from places they’ve investigated.
