Romania: Hotel to hire medium to deal with resident ghost.

A hotel in Romania recently became a site of interest for ghost hunters after a local photographed what appears to be a female spirit standing above its lobby stairwell. The hotel, named the Decebal, is situated in the mountain spa resort of Baile Herculane.

Local, Victorian Loval aged 33 and her boyfriend snuck inside the hotel which has been closed for five years for renovations. While inside she snapped the photo, but only saw the ghost later, when she developed the film. The hotel is said to stand on an ancient Roman ruin and the ghost appears to be wearing the white robe of an ancient Roman priestess.

Some have dismissed the photo as an illusion caused by irregular stonework in the lobby however others have been in the hotel since the event and swear that they saw the ghost. One group of students fled the building in fear after being confronted by the apparent spirit. Another man called friend from inside the lobby in a panic after claiming to have seen its ghostly resident. Some have commented that she might be guarding something of ancient importance.

Now it appears that the owner of the site is worried that this non-paying resident might be bad for business when the establishment re-opens. It is being reported in the Romanian press that the hotel management is planning to bring out a medium to make contact and ask the spirit why she remains and on what conditions she might ‘check-out’.

E! orders ‘Hot Girls in Scary Places’

Hot Girls in Scary Places

Hot Girls in Scary Places

E! has ordered new reality project that puts an all-girl spin on the paranormal investigation genre.

The show is called “Hot Girls in Scary Places” and, yes, that is the finest unscripted project name to come along in awhile. It’s a title. It’s a logline. It’s a title and a logline, with a “Snakes on a Plane”-style self-deprecating bluntness. Probably the best, if not the bestest, since Fuse’s “Pants Off, Dance Off.”

The show stars three University of Southern California cheer squad friends challenged to spend the night in a supposedly haunted abandoned hospital for a cash prize of $10,000 (which would pay for maybe half a semester at USC). To get the prize, the trio will have to complete a series of challenges.

“They’re totally scared, and totally believe experiences they’re going through,” says executive producer Gary Auerbach. “They’ll get scared and then be talking about a sorority party coming up. It’s a little bit ‘Scooby Doo’-ish.”

“Hot Girls” will premiere as a special and is tentatively scheduled to air on Friday the 13th next month month (yes, March has one too). The project from Go Go Luckey (A&E’s “Paranormal State” and Animal Planet’s “Jockeys”) and it’s considered a special/backdoor pilot.

A paranormal pilgrimage to the Hoia-Baciu forest

f4f08eef42b1bbb2cb656f04c2fdThose intrigued by things that go bump in the night can’t help but take notice of Romania’s most folkloric region. The very word Transylvania conjures up spooky gothic castles and blood-sucking aristocrats, but there’s a lesser-known local attraction to add to your goose bump list.

The Hoia-Baciu Forest (HBF), located a few kilometres outside of the city of Cluj Napoca, is rumoured to be a hot bed of unexplained supernatural activity.

Dubbed the Bermuda Triangle of Transylvania, theforest first gained international attention in 1968, when biologist Alexandru Sift captured a photo of what’s said to be a disc-shaped UFO. Since then, UFOs, apparitions, abnormalities on photos, nocturnal lights and other unusual things have been regularly reported in the area.

Ghost hunters, paranormal investigators, parapsychologists — and more recently, tourists — have all taken an interest. Dr. Adrian Patrut, a chemistry professor at the local university, claims that though there are many places around the world with unexplained phenomena, the “Hoia-Baciu Forest is one of the best due to the intensity, variety and complexity of its manifestations.”

Patrut is president of the Romanian Society of Parapsychology and since the early ’70s he has been studying occurrences in the forest such as unexplained splotches of light and luminescent orbs hovering in the sky. He says that when you spend too much time in the HBF, you can experience symptoms such as anxiety, insomnia, excessive thirst, nausea, vomiting and headaches.

With that kind of build-up, I had to check out the forest for myself.

A 20-minute drive outside of the city finds us on the fringes of the forest. Patrut and I climb up a steep grassy plain to get to the tree line. Once there, we get out our ghost hunting tools: A compass, a still camera, a video camera with infra-red sensors and a Geiger counter to measure sudden rises in radiation. Then we head out into the forest in the hopes of seeing something strange.

The scene looks like something out of a Brothers Grimm fairy tale. Spiky branches reach out like bony fingers; trees are gnarled and spooky. Patrut claims that these trees were normal a few years ago. Now they are warped, “A clear sign of an apparition.” Supernatural or not, there’s something truly creepy about prowling an abandoned forest at night. A few hours of hunting left us with a bunch of mosquito bites but, sadly, no orbs or UFO sightings.

New Poster! ‘The Haunting in Connecticut’

February 17th, 2009 by CVPI

We’ve just scored the new poster for The Haunting in Connecticut and I have to admit, each time I see the trailer for this flick it gives me the willies, the poster is no different. ‘Haunting’ has the potential to be a true ‘diamond in the rough’ rather than another ‘Amityville’ clone, keep an eye out for it. From the official synopsis, ‘In the tradition of such real-life horror movies as The Exorcist and The Exorcism of Emily Rose, The Haunting in Connecticut tells the astounding true story of one family’s supernatural ordeal. When Sara and Peter Campbell’s son Matt is diagnosed with cancer, they uproot their family to Connecticut for his treatment. As the family settles into their new home, Matt grows increasingly disturbed by paranormal activity that seems to inhabit and possess the house. At a loss to help her frightened family, his mother turns to an enigmatic priest who appears to rid the house of its ghosts– until the boy’s condition takes a sudden and unexplained turn for the worse and their lives are put in grave danger.’ Haunting stars Virginia Madsen and hits theaters March 27th. 13-liveaA ghost image has been captured by a British schoolboy, as the figure walked towards the banisters at his home. The 12 year old Reece Pitman first heard whistling when he spotted the shadowy image. Terrified, he showed it to his mother, 38-year-old Tonia.

“Reece looked scared witless,” the Sun quoted her as saying. In the clip a white shadow appears from my bedroom followed by the dark image of a man.” It crosses the landing and disappears when it reaches the banisters,” she stated.

The image was finally spotted days after Reece’s sister complained that someone mysteriously finished her jigsaws at night. Later Tonia consulted a psychic who told that it could be a friendly ghost. “I’ve had a tough time recently as my husband left me. I didn’t believe in ghosts , but I’m thinking of the spectre as my guardian angel,” she added.

It was the best footage of a ghost in years, as stated by Julian Banks of the British Paranormal Society.

The ghosts that haunt Wilmington

Listen: the-ghosts-that-haunt-wilmington

ghosts300aJust beyond the tangled, Spanish moss, inside a historic brick Wilmington home walks a ghost named George.

“A young man was hung at the gallows, and was buried before he had passed away, before he was dead,” described Chip Hemingway, an architect for BMH.

Ghost Walk Tour guide, Lewis Musser said, “Ever since then, it’s been as haunted as can be, and remains so to this day.”

The building was built in the mid-1800s; once a hanging ground where mischievous criminals were hung at the gallows, now it is a space where the spirits have come to stay.

“I’ve seen an old lantern burning in there, when there is no one around,” Musser said.

Across the street below the Bellamy Mansion, is a spot Lewis calls the dungeon. “Step up to the velvet rope ladies and gentlemen, have a little gander, talk about, ‘We’ll leave the light on for you’.”

Another famously haunted spot is the place to be for pool players and bar flies, Orton’s pool hall. “People have taken pictures down that dark gloomy hallway, and find shadowy figures that can’t be explained in there,” said John Scott, also part of the Ghost Walk Tour.

The pool hall used to be a fancy hotel, until it burned to the ground in 1949. Tales say all the guests and staff made it out alive, but after sifting through the rubble they found the remains of two people inside the space; one was 25-year-old tug boat hand, William Stevens.

“After the fire, folks came to the police and began to ask, ‘what happened to the old man we saw in the fire’. A lot of people saw an old man walking back into the smoke, and wouldn’t leave, and seemed disoriented,” described Scott.

Orton’s workers said they have heard William’s ghost opening and closing a back door in the wee hours of the morning, while they are closing down.

Scott said, “That perhaps is responsible, those two deaths, for some of the strange occurrences that go on here in the Orton’s pool hall, and across the hall at Longstreet’s Pub as well.”

Paranormal Research Team in El Paso

“We’re investigating paranormal activity throughout the city, but we’re also trying to uncover historical proof of hauntings” said Henry Flores, Director of Fantasmas.

Flores remembers the exact moment when he became interested in the paranormal. At age seven he had an experience he still carries with him everyday and that memory is the reason he keeps on investigating the unknown.

“I would see a lady just walk by…later on it became dark. I couldn’t see until I looked up at her face, it was black, she had no sockets. I guess i’m just still looking for that face” said Flores.

The Fantasmas have experienced many different encounters. Flores says after all of his investigations little scares him now a days but that wasn’t always the case.

“We were chasing something it went into this old building. We went after it to see if we could find documented proof…i heard it laugh at me. It wasn’t a human laugh. There were bats in the building. It smelled like flesh and rotten blood. Those are the signs that a demon was in an area” said Flores.

Flores is part of the concordia heritage association. For those that cannot handle the idea of investigating and being part of a paranormal team, the cemetery does offer tours. He says the tours always attract the spirits. For more information you can contact Flores at fantasmasonline.tv.

The Fantasmas are recording all of their investigations. They want El Paso to have its very own version of ghosthunters.
